Our offer is aimed at primary and secondary school students. The topics covered are tailored to the students' age and the core curriculum at various levels.

In June 2022, the Warsaw Ghetto Museum began archaeological excavations at the intersection of Miła and Dubois Streets. The basements of 19th-century tenement houses were uncovered, which during the Ghetto Uprising were most likely part of a shelter known as the "Anielewicz Bunker." Approximately three thousand artifacts were found during the excavations, including everyday objects and religious items (e.g., tefillin and Shabbat candlesticks).

Archaeology Workshops (Grades 3-6)

During the classes, educators will discuss the secrets of archaeologists' work, how they conduct research and arrive at their conclusions. Objects found during excavations will serve as a contribution to the story of Judaism and life in a traditional Jewish home.

Historical and archaeological workshops (grades 7-8 and secondary schools)

During the workshop, students will learn about the history of the Warsaw Ghetto and the Ghetto Uprising. They will also visit the archaeological site and some of the objects found. The narrative of the objects found during the excavations will also tell the story of the Warsaw Ghetto and its creation.

Grades 1-3

For this age group, the war and the ghetto will not be discussed, although information about the fate of Jews during World War II will be introduced. Instead, we will discuss Jewish identity, customs, and their influence on Polish culture.

RYFKA, MALKA, ICEK, MOSIEK – WHO IS BEHIND THESE NAMES? – students will have the opportunity to learn who Jews are, where they live now, where they lived decades ago, and why so few of them remain in Poland. They will learn the meaning of some names – not only Jewish but also Polish.

JEWISH CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY – When is the Jewish religious holiday (Shabbat) and what does it look like? How did they strive to maintain the Sabbath rules even in the most unfavorable circumstances? Together, we'll plan a Jewish sibling's holiday.

Grades 4-7

Alongside stories about Judaism and Jewish identity, issues related to the Holocaust also emerge. We will discuss what the ghetto was like, the history of the closed district, what daily life was like under isolation, and consider the moral stances taken in the face of the Holocaust.

 

JUDAISM WITHOUT MYSTERIES – Why do Jews wear yarmulkes? Can fast food be kosher? During the lesson, we will delve into issues of Jewish law and consider otherness, stereotyping, and the consequences of exclusion.

GHETTO DURING THE HOLOCAUST – The lesson will give students basic knowledge about ghettos – their history, circumstances and reasons for their creation.

HEROES OF THE GHETTO – What can heroism be? What were the paths of resistance beyond armed struggle? Who were Anna Braude-Heller, Adina Blady-Szwajger, Janusz Korczak, Irena Sendler, Emanuel Ringelblum, and Marek Edelman?

Grade 8 and secondary schools

In this age group, apart from strictly historical topics, we will talk about the ethical problems that humanity faced in the face of the Holocaust.

TWO WARSAW UPRISINGS – What were the insurgents fighting for in the spring of 1943, what were the circumstances of the ghetto revolt, how was it different from the Warsaw Uprising in 1944?

TO HELP, TO SPEND OR TO PASS BY INDIFFERENTLY – Based on excerpts from the diaries of Holocaust survivors and testimonies given by the Righteous Among the Nations, we will talk about the different attitudes of the Polish population towards the tragedy of the Jews and the choices faced by those who helped Jews.

“ Opening Silence” is a project intended for students of schools located in the former Warsaw Ghetto.

Its aim is to describe and/or reconstruct the site where a given school is currently located and then – based on witnesses’ memories, history, photographs, maps and written sources – create a short documentary film.

As part of the "Opening Silence" project, five films have been produced so far, made by students of: Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Secondary School with Bilingual Departments, Prince Józef Poniatowski V Secondary School, R. Romuald Traugutt XLV Secondary School, Aleksander Fredro LXXXI Secondary School, and Henryk Sienkiewicz XII Secondary School. 

The buildings of the institutions participating in the project will also feature plaques informing about what was located on the site of the present-day school during the ghetto era.
