Educational Walks

The Warsaw Ghetto Museum invites students to take a walk in the footsteps of the Warsaw Ghetto. The walks are guided by the current Polish language curriculum (e.g., Marek Edelman's " Zdążyć przed Panem Boga" or Czesław Miłosz's "Campo di Fiori ") and the history curriculum in secondary schools.

Warsaw Walks

In the spring of 2019, the Warsaw Ghetto Museum launched a series of regular, broad-based Warsaw-themed walks on the history and functioning of the Warsaw Ghetto. These sessions included:

  • we led the participants in the footsteps of the fights undertaken by the fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising;
  • we told the history of Sienna and Śliska streets along with the fate of the Bersohn and Bauman Hospital;
  • we showed places related to the activities of Janusz Korczak;
  • we visited the Jewish cemetery on Okopowa Street and the graves of Jewish philanthropists there;
  • we accompanied the exhibition "Warsaw in three scenes".

After the epidemiological conditions related to the COVID-10 pandemic improved, we organized the following trips in 2021:

  1. Tenement Houses and Their Secrets: Stories of Pre-War Relics from the Ghetto Area – June 20;
  2. A Teenage Girl's Eyes on the Small Ghetto: A Walk Through Mary Berg's Memories – July 18;
  3. Remnants of the Warsaw Ghetto – July 25 (walk in English);
  4. Smugglers and Their Secrets: Smuggling Stories and Hot Spots in the Small Ghetto – August 22;
  5. In the footsteps of Janina Bauman – October 24;
  6. A small ghetto in the center of Warsaw – November 21;
  7. The Ghetto in the memoirs of Ludwik Hirszfeld – December 19.

We will continue the tradition of Warsaw-themed walks in 2022. We are constantly searching for new routes and historical landmarks for you, exploring various topics related to the history of Warsaw, the local Jewish community, and the functioning of the Warsaw Ghetto. The following walks have taken place so far:

  7. In the footsteps of post-war Jewish history – August 21;

  9. "Marszałkowska ghetto", former Leszno Street – October 16;
  10. In the footsteps of the Warsaw Ghetto – November 20 (celebration of the 82nd anniversary of the closing of the ghetto borders)

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, the Warsaw Ghetto Museum joined the community of Polish cultural institutions supporting Ukrainian museum professionals. Our museum initiated weekly Warsaw walks dedicated to refugees from Ukraine, led in Russian by MGW educator Masha Makarova. We are committed to ensuring that the Ukrainian population fleeing war and terror, having found refuge in Warsaw, feels at home here—safe and at ease. Believing that knowledge of history and topography will facilitate this task and help them distract themselves from the tragic events in their homeland, we conducted a series of meetings in the Śródmieście and Praga Północ districts:
