Historian, educator, and social and political activist, known primarily as the creator of the underground Warsaw Ghetto Archive, now colloquially known by his name, and since 2009 the patron of the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw. Ringelblum was born in Buczacz, from where he moved with his family to Nowy Sącz during World War I.
