Standards for the Protection of Minors at MGW
The Standards for the Protection of Minors is an official set of legal rules and procedures designed to ensure absolute safety and respect for every person under 18 years of age staying on the grounds of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum.
Staff Conduct Rules
Museum staff, volunteers, and interns have clear guidelines for building relationships with young people:
- Respect and equality: They have an obligation to treat everyone equally, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion or origin.
- Communication: They must communicate with respect and patience. Raising their voices, ridiculing, shaming, using profanity, or making inappropriate jokes or comments (including sexual ones) is prohibited.
- Privacy and private conversations: Your private matters and sensitive data are confidential. If a situation requires a one-on-one conversation, the employee must ensure this occurs within view of others (e.g., with the door ajar) or in the presence of another employee.
- Prohibition of prohibited behavior: Establishing romantic relationships, offering alcohol, cigarettes, or any other stimulants is strictly prohibited. Any form of physical violence (poking, shoving) or indecent touching is strictly prohibited.
Safety and intervention procedures
- Reporting suspicions: If an employee observes or suspects that someone is harming you, they must immediately make an official note and notify Management or the designated Standards Officer.
- When the employee is at fault: Anyone who is even suspected of harming minors is immediately and completely removed from contact with young people until the matter is resolved.
- Responding to Peer Conflict: If violence or conflicts occur between teenagers, the museum organizes separate discussions with both parties and their guardians.
- Legal services: In cases of justified suspicion of a crime, the museum officially notifies the police, prosecutor’s office or family court in writing (if the perpetrator of the criminal act is a person aged 13-17).
Image and data protection
Your privacy online and in the media is strictly protected:
- Consent to publication: No staff member may take photographs, record videos, or interview you for public or media purposes without the written consent of your parent or legal guardian.
- Exception: Such consent is only not needed if your image is only a small detail of a larger whole – for example, in a photo showing a general crowd at a public event or a landscape.
Network security (IT)
- During organised educational activities, employees are obliged to ensure online security and teach safe behaviour.
- The museum's IT department is responsible for installing filters and software that blocks access to dangerous, violent, or illegal content on both museum devices and the public Wi-Fi network.
Employee verification
The museum doesn't hire random people. Before anyone is allowed to work with young people, they undergo a detailed process:
- Checking the registers: Each candidate is verified by the state Sex Offenders RegisterIf someone is listed there, they have no chance of getting hired.
- Foreign verification: Foreigners or people who have lived abroad in the last 20 years must provide official, sworn translated certificates of no criminal record from those countries.
- Statement: Employees sign a document in which they declare that they have no criminal record under penalty of perjury.
This entire system of rules is compulsorily checked and updated by the museum authorities once every 12 months to ensure that it always meets real security needs.
