During the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, he directed the production of explosives. Through him, the Home Army transferred weapons to the ghetto. He was killed on the second day of the uprising in the so-called brushmakers' shop, shielding a German machine gun with his body, thus saving his comrades. He was likely buried the next day where he was found, in the yard at 32 Świętojerska Street or behind number 34. This was the first known and confirmed fatality on the Jewish side.
For his heroism, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Cross of the Virtuti Militari by Commander-in-Chief General Kazimierz Sosnkowski. His symbolic grave is located in the Bund section of the Jewish cemetery on Okopowa Street in Warsaw. He is also commemorated by a stone block on the Memorial Route of Jewish Martyrdom and Struggle.
