"You have to do what you have to do, and you're here to help, " wrote Adina Blady-Szwajger, one of the doctors in the Warsaw Ghetto, in her memoirs. The final, sixteenth installment in the series, "Warsaw Walks in the Footsteps of the Ghetto," will tell the story of the place where she began her medical practice – the Bersohn and Bauman Hospital . Hanna Dzielińska (Hanna Warszawianka), journalist and tour guide, will also highlight Dr. Anna Braude-Hellerowa, who ran the facility during the occupation and co-authored research on starvation in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942, published under the editorship of Emil Apfelbaum in 1946.
"Varsavianist Walks in the Footsteps of the Ghetto" is a film series of 16 columns revealing the history of places and the people connected with them. The following sites will be presented: Umschlagplatz; Anielewicz Mound; Szmul Zygielbojm Monument; Ghetto Heroes Monument; Grzybowski Square; Mariańska Street and the Nursing School; the Nożyk Synagogue; the Great Synagogue on Tłomackie Street; Nalewki Street; the Femina Cinema and Theatre; the Courts on Leszno Street; Chłodna Street; Waliców Street; the Jewish Cemetery and the Bersohn and Bauman Hospital – the site of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum's permanent exhibition.
The series is presented as part of the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the closing of the Warsaw Ghetto borders, organized by the Warsaw Ghetto Museum in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland (TSKŻ). The main commemorations took place on November 16, 2020.
