In November 2019, the Warsaw Ghetto Museum, together with the Polish Society for Jewish Studies (PTSŻ), the Jewish Historical Institute (JIH), the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRI), and Touro College Berlin, organized an international academic conference entitled "The Beginning of Nazi Occupation: Patterns of Continuity and Changes in Jewish and Polish Life." The event coincided with the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, which fell last year. Its goal was to conduct an in-depth, scholarly analysis of the impact of the German occupation on the situation in Polish lands and on the attitudes of the population in the first year of the war, as well as to compare research paradigms and methodological approaches. Katarzyna Person is a historian, a graduate of the University of Warsaw and the University of London. She specializes in the history of the Holocaust in Poland and the fate of Polish Jews in the DP camps. She represents the Jewish Historical Institute.
