MUSEUM DIRECTORS MEET IN POZNAN.

“The offer the museums prepared on the occasion of the centennial of Poland’s independence is impressive,” emphasized the deputy prime minister and minister of culture and national heritage Piotr Gliński on Tuesday 4 December in Poznań. He and deputy minister Jarosław Sellin were guests of the general meeting of museum directors. The city of Poznań hosted representatives of the cultural institutions whose operation remains under the management or coordination of the ministry of culture and national heritage for their regular three-day meeting. In the course of the congress, Prof. Gliński decorated the outgoing director of the National Museum in Poznań Prof. Wojciech Suchocki with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland.

“Above all, I wish to thank you for what you are doing, for how Polish museums present themselves and how these institutions are run. We can proudly say that Polish culture has fared well, also through the operation of the institutions you manage, and this unique year testifies to that,” said the minister of culture and national heritage.

He also emphasized that over the recent months the museums hosted “many brilliant initiatives related to the anniversary of national independence.”

“Thank you very much for that because this offer is simply impressive. When I was questioned intensely – and there was such a moment – about whether Poland would celebrate that anniversary in a dignified way and whether anything lasting would come out of that, one of the things we said in response was that everything our institutions create would remain,” he stated.

“These wonderful exhibitions are not only the social change precipitated by contact with the wonderful art, but also the output such as catalogues, documentaries and many other things which form an additional impulse for your everyday work,” he added.

At the meeting, minister Piotr Gliński presented the now former director of the National Museum in Poznań Professor Wojciech Suchocki with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland. In recent days, Prof. Suchocki retired having held the position of the Poznań museum’s director for 18 years. His position has been filled by Adam Soćko, his deputy for scholarly research.

The meeting was attended by Albert Stankowski, director of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum established in March 2018.
