Allan Hall – Holocaust survivor, witness to history, and author of moving memoirs at the WGM
On July 3, 2025, we had the great honor of welcoming Allan Hall to the Warsaw Ghetto Museum — a Holocaust Survivor, eyewitness to history, and author of the moving memoir Hiding in Plain Sight: Holocaust Survivor Allan Hall’s Memoir, As told to Bobbi Kaufman (published 2017).
Allan Hall was born in Kraków in 1935. During World War II, his family endured a dramatic journey to escape Nazi terror — from a perilous trek on foot to Lwów, to hiding for two years in Warsaw inside a wardrobe in an office of the “Prudential” Insurance Company building (then a “skyscraper” located at the corner of Świętokrzyska Street and Powstańców Warszawy Square), and finally to fleeing across war-torn Europe.
During the war, he lost his uncle, two aunts, grandparents, and his mother’s entire family. During the Warsaw Uprising, his mother gave birth to a second son in a shelter, and 11-year-old Allan took care of his baby brother throughout their continued flight. After the war, the family emigrated to the United States.
Today, Allan shares his story to remind us of the tragedy of the Holocaust and the importance of standing up against injustice.
During his visit to our Museum, Allan Hall was interviewed by Masza Makarowa from the Education Department. The interview will be available on our website and social media channels.
We are deeply grateful for his presence and his testimony.
