From April 26, we will reopen the archaeological site at the intersection of Miła and Dubois streets (near the Anielewicz Mound).
This is the only place in contemporary Warsaw that allows you to truly get up close to the vanished city and see that large parts of it still exist beneath the feet of its inhabitants. Our stand will be open every weekend from 12:00 PM to 15:00 PM until June 22nd.
In addition to the archaeological site, our latest outdoor exhibition, "Miła," will be open to visitors on-site. Details about it will be available soon. We will also make audio guides available. As a reminder, during archaeological excavations in the immediate vicinity of the so-called Anielewicz Bunker in the summer of 2022, researchers uncovered the buried basements of 19th-century tenement houses that were destroyed during or after the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The basements of tenement houses with dual addresses were unearthed: Miła 18/Muranowska 39 and Miła 20/Muranowska 41. Fragments of structures likely part of the so-called Anielewicz Bunker were uncovered in the basement of the tenement house at Muranowska 41. Researchers found several thousand artifacts at the site, including religious objects such as tefillin, fragments of Jewish prayer books, and ritual handwashing vessels.
Volunteers on duty will provide on-site information about ongoing archaeological research and the history of the Warsaw Ghetto. We look forward to seeing you there!
