The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) held its plenary session in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from June 12th to 15th. The event brought together several hundred Holocaust education specialists from Europe and around the world.
IHRA plenary sessions are held twice a year and serve to coordinate the activities of political and social leaders and to exchange information on the current situation in countering anti-Semitism and commemorating the Holocaust. This year's meetings are being held in Croatia, which took over the IHRA presidency from Sweden in 2023. The first meeting took place in Dubrovnik, and the next one is scheduled for Zagreb.
The IHRA was established in 1998 by the Declaration of the International Stockholm Forum on the Holocaust (the Stockholm Declaration) to support activities aimed at preserving remembrance, education, and research on the Holocaust. Today, the IHRA has 35 member states and 10 observer states. Poland has been an IHRA member since 1999.
“The IHRA’s mission is to provide the intellectual and organizational resources so that we can better understand the world we live in,” said Yehuda Bauer , a prominent Holocaust scholar and honorary chairman of the IHRA, during the session.
The event brought together several hundred Holocaust education specialists from Europe and around the world. The Warsaw Ghetto Museum was represented by Director Albert Stankowski , who on the first day of the conference delivered a presentation about the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising being held in Poland.
