On August 28th, as part of the Singer's Warsaw Festival, a Warsaw walk for refugees from Ukraine—"From Żydowska Street to Muranów"—took place. It was led by Masza Makarova from the MGW Education Department.
During our walk, we discovered where a Jewish street might have existed in the Old Town, and who the Jewish residents of Warsaw were at the time. We learned when and how Jews were given surnames, where synagogues and houses of prayer were located, and what Jewish life was like before the war. We found what remains of one of the main Jewish streets – Nalewki Street. We also discussed the wartime history of the Jewish quarter and saw the most important monuments in the former Warsaw Ghetto. We also searched for contemporary murals in the gates of Muranów.
The walk lasted approximately 2,5 hours and was conducted in Russian.
