Photo report | Guided tour of the exhibition "Out of thousands..."

We invite you to view photos from the guided tour of the outdoor exhibition "Out of Thousands...", which took place on September 4 as part of the Singer's Warsaw Festival.

The exhibition at Grzybowski Square is dedicated to the victims of the "Grossaktion" in the Warsaw Ghetto (July 22, 1942 – September 21, 1942), the 80th anniversary of which falls this year. During the two months of the "Grossaktion," approximately 300,000 Jews, primarily children, women, and the elderly, were deported from Warsaw and murdered in the Treblinka extermination camp. The "Aktion" lasted until September 21, 1942.

After 20 months of imprisoning the Jewish population in the ghetto, the Germans began implementing their plan to exterminate them. They called the deportation of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto to the Treblinka extermination camp "Gross Aktion." It was part of the so-called "Aktion Reinhardt," a planned mass murder of the Jewish population on Polish soil, which had been ongoing since March 1942.

The exhibition organizers selected a dozen or so victims of the "Great Action," representing various social positions, political views, and religious beliefs. The exhibition presents figures such as the poet Henryka Łazowertówna, the painter Roman Kramsztyk, Adam Czerniaków, the first president of the Warsaw Judenrat, and the oldest rabbi of the Warsaw Ghetto, Yitzhak Meir Kan.

Guests of the Singer's Warsaw Festival were guided through the exhibition by Masha Makarova – MGW educator, historian, licensed Warsaw guide, author of the Warszawa na pamięci (@warsaw.to.remember) blog on Instagram and a PhD student at the University of Warsaw.
