On September 3, an open-air concert entitled "Songs of the Ghetto" took place in the courtyard of the former Bersohn and Bauman Children's Hospital, organized by the Warsaw Ghetto Museum and the Jewish Theatre.
The concert, directed by Gołda Tencer, featured artists from the Jewish Theatre: Monika Chrząstowska, Ewa Dąbrowska, Adrianna Dorociak, Sylwia Najah, Izabella Rzeszowska, Alina Świdowska, Gołda Tencer, Genady Iskhakov, Henryk Rajfer, and Dominik Rybićłek. The musical arrangement was created by pianist and composer Teresa Wrońska, who has been the Theatre's music director for over 30 years.
Artists from the Jewish Theatre sang songs in Polish and Yiddish, accompanied by Teresa Wrońska (piano), Dariusz Falana (clarinet), and Marek Wroński (violin). Excerpts from letters and diaries written in the ghetto were also read.
This was the first concert held at the Bersohn and Bauman Hospital – the eventual home of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. During World War II, Marek Edelman and Adina Blady-Szwajger, among others, worked there, and excerpts from her memoirs were also shared during the concert.
Despite the late hour, over 300 people attended the concert. The audience rewarded the artists with thunderous applause. The concert was performed as part of the 19th edition of the Singer's Warsaw Festival, a partner of which was the Warsaw Ghetto Museum.
