Zdzisław Askanas (1910–1974)
Cardiologist, professor of medical sciences, founder of the Warsaw Academic School of Cardiology; defender of the Modlin Fortress, underground activist, and participant in the Warsaw Uprising. He was born on June 1, 1910, into the family of a Warsaw pharmacist. Before graduating from high school, he earned a living as a pianist in Warsaw cafes. We say goodbye to Zbiegniew Galperyn
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Zbigniew Galperyn, a participant in the Warsaw Uprising and president of the Warsaw Insurgents' Union. Mr. Galperyn was the subject of an interview conducted by the Warsaw Ghetto Museum as part of the "Home Army and the Tragedy of Polish Jews" project. His contribution was invaluable. Ceremony of planting trees and unveiling stones commemorating the Righteous
Yesterday, September 23, a ceremony took place in the Garden of the Righteous to unveil plaques and plant trees commemorating seven more individuals honored with the title of Righteous Among the Nations. Representatives of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum attended the ceremony. The Garden of the Righteous Committee selected seven more individuals to be honored in 2020 and 2021: Hrant Dink, Julia Ilisińska, Karol Modzelewski, Stanisław Yevgrafowicz Petrov, Antonina Wyrzykowska, Liu Xiaobo, and Emanuel Ringelblum.
