Physician, bacteriologist, and immunologist, founder of the Polish school of immunological theory, a new field of science—seroanthropology—and the foundations of blood group science (with Emil von Dungen), nominated for the Nobel Prize for his numerous scientific achievements. Born in Warsaw, he studied medicine at the universities of Würzburg and Berlin.
