Ceremony Program

11:15 a.m. – ceremony participants’ meeting at the entrance to former “Zigeunerlager”

11:30 a.m. – walk to the Memorial of the Murdered Roma and Sinti

11:50 a.m. – opening ceremony – welcome speech

12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. – occasional speeches

12:30 p.m. – wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial

This year marks 77 years since the brutal murder of 4300 Roma and Sinti on 2nd August 1944. In the Auschwitz–Birkenau camp in sectior B II E, called by the SS, “the Gypsy family camp”.

In the memory of the 500 000 Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe, the Parliament of the Republic of Poland on 29th July 2011 declared 2nd August to the Day of Remembrance for the Extermination of the Roma, and the Europan Parliament in 2015 declared 2nd August – European Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day.
