2022 Summary from the MGW | 5th Anniversary of the Museum's Establishment

The Warsaw Ghetto Museum was officially established on February 28, 2018. Since then, we have been continuously developing and operating to fulfill our statutory goals: commemorating the history of the Warsaw Ghetto and other ghettos in occupied Poland, and educating about the cultural heritage of Polish Jews.

Over the past five years, we've successfully produced over a dozen outdoor and virtual exhibitions and organized numerous seminars and training sessions. Scientists from our team have participated in numerous conferences, our educators have led workshops for hundreds of students, and thousands of people have participated in our Warsaw walking tours. During excavations in the former Warsaw Ghetto, several thousand artifacts were unearthed.

The past year was exceptionally busy for us: we completed several important projects and launched new collaborations. An educational game, an outdoor exhibition, the publication of an anthology of literary texts about the Warsaw Ghetto, a conference commemorating the 80th anniversary of Operation Reinhardt, and archaeological research—that's not all that happened at the Museum in 2022. We invite you to watch a video summarizing the activities of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum last year.

Our mission to perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust took on new significance in the wake of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which forced images of the war's devastation out of the confines of archival photographs and into the dramatic everyday reality of our neighbors across the eastern border. A summary of the year of the Russian invasion from the perspective of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum can be found here.

The year 2023 is particularly important to us. Soon, on April 19, we will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – the largest act of mass resistance by the Jewish population against the German occupiers. Together with our partners – the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute , the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews , and the Jewish Social and Cultural Association in Poland – we have prepared a rich program of events dedicated to this date, which you can read about at warsaw1943.pl.

Thank you for being with us!
